A Window on Scotland

VisitScotland have been asking everyone across the country to open a window on Scotland, share their views and spread the love of our wonderful towns, villages and cities.

As we all stay at home, the campaign #AWindowOnScotland is urging Scots and past visitors to share online the glorious sights they can see from their properties, creating a virtual vision of the country.

From the mundane to the sublime, they believe each view will create an authentic picture of Scotland and hope it will spread some joy between neighbours, friends and visitors, during these uncertain and challenging times.

We’ve been loving taking part in this campaign so wanted to share some of our of favourites views from the windows at Aikwood. Hopefully it will bring back fond memories for all our past guests and inspire those who will visit us in the future when we can open again!

It’s easy to see why Reiver towers were built up high all those 500 years ago! With sweeping views from the bedroom windows down into the Valley, no marauding attackers would have been able to hide from Aikwood’s defenders. Today, it’s more likely to be a bride sneaking a peek at all her guests arriving for a wedding, or little guests playing at Rapunzel or being the bravest knight in the Kingdom!

The views into the garden shine a light on what is a gorgeous sun trap throughout the whole year, making it a wonderful space to totally relax in. Fully enclosed, it’s safe for children to explore and your dogs to run around in. We have a summer house full of outdoor games such as croquet, quiot, jingo and giant dominos - something for everyone to enjoy while the BBQ fires up. For weddings and events, this is a great spot for ceremonies, drinks and photographs. And the Wendy house in the orchard is a fantastic hideaway spot for guests of all ages!
