Aikwood Tower is truly blessed by its location. The Scottish Borders covers a vast area of outstanding beauty, stretching from the rugged east coast to rural Dumfriesshire and from the English border to the historic city of Edinburgh. It offers peace and tranquility in abundance, but the unspoilt spaces and amazing landscapes of valleys, forests, lochs and rivers, interspersed around picturesque towns and villages, also offer limitless activities for all ages.
We are also perfectly situated for day trips to the rest of the South of Scotland, Edinburgh, Glasgow or the North of England. But if you’re just looking to escape to your very own castle for some well-earned R&R then we have lots of indoor and outdoor games and books to keep you entertained.

The local area around Aikwood Tower offers some of the finest walking, cycling, shooting, fishing and horse-riding in Scotland, among many other leisure activities. Any outdoors enthusiast will be in their element, so no matter your age or adventure criteria, or whether it’s by foot, pedal or horseback you’ll be out and about, soaking up the fresh air and exploring this breathtaking part of the world.

Rich and varied in its history and culture, the Scottish Borders has much to explore, from romantic abbey ruins and magnificent stately homes, to the local towns' summer Common Riding festivals and Rugby 7 tournaments. And with Edinburgh just over an hour’s drive away, a formidable array of city delights is within easy striking distance.
