The must-not-miss wedding photo spots at Aikwood
This month we’re delighted to have made it into Tie the Knot magazine’s feature on The Hot Shots! Venues across Scotland were asked to nominate the most photogenic spot in their building or grounds and explain what makes it so special. We were very happy to fly the flag for wedding venues in the Scottish Borders.
That’s a pretty tough choice when it comes to Aikwood as every nook and cranny is photoworthy so Vicki has compiled a gallery of her favourites to go alongside the gorgeous garden shot of Natalie and Thomas’ December wedding by Rachel Hein that featured in the magazine.
Aikwood from the Garden and main entrance
Built over 500 years ago, the beautifully renovated Aikwood Tower building really speaks for itself when it comes to the perfect shots that are the best reminder of a wedding day, so photographs in the garden with the Tower in the distance, by the old front door or with the front of the Tower in full view are always spectacular and provide a special memory image for our couples. Our garden team take great care over the grounds to ensure it’s photo-ready all year round..
The Laburnum Arch
Guests walk through this archway to reach the ceremony and main Tower buildings and it is one of the most popular photography spots – no matter what the season! In May and June the laburnum is in full bloom, a stunning yellow. At night it twinkles with fairy lights and is a perfect spot for some star-gazing too.
The Orchard
The apple trees in the orchard create a natural aisle for couples to walk down and provide a mini woodland backdrop for photographs. The changing colour of the leaves create a beautiful frame at any time of year for photographs and also small ceremonies.
Bridal Suite
This is really one of the most special moments of our wedding days. There’s always a moment of calm once hair and make-up have left and the bride has a few moments with family, bridesmaids or just by herself to gather her thoughts and capture one last look before she leaves the bridal suite.
Spiral Staircase
Brides become a princess in their own castle as they make their way down the spiral staircase to the ceremony.
Every wedding album that lands in our inbox blows us away with just how different Aikwood can look through each photographer’s lens. It’s definitely one of the best parts of the job - reliving the precious moments and loving how each couple put their very own stamp on their day! Thank you to all our couples and photographers for sharing.
