Railway Set to Breath New Life into the Scottish Borders

In just two months time, the opening of the Borders Railway marks the beginning of a new route through one of Europe’s most beautiful and undiscovered regions.

The Borders Railway (www.bordersrailway.co.uk) is the first domestic railway to be constructed in Britain in 100 years. The new line will run from Edinburgh to Tweedback, the heart of the Scottish Borders.

With its rolling hills, stunning landscapes, rich history, flourishing cultural scene and vast range of outdoor pursuits, the Borders is a holiday and short break destination that can compete on the world stage. The railway will make access to this rich world of charming towns and historical sites much easier.

All year long, whether visitors want to be adventurous and immerse themselves in outdoor activities or simply explore the tranquil countryside, the Borders has it all; the world renowned, Glentress 7stanes mountain bike track, Rugby 7s tournaments, Common Riding horse festival, beautiful walks including the Southern Upland Way and some of the finest salmon and trout fishing in the world.

History lovers can follow in the footsteps of Sir Walter Scott, starting in Edinburgh with Scotts Monument, and travel through the landscape that inspired his writing, finishing off at the award winning visitor centre at Abbotsford House near Tweedbank, which was once the home of the writer.

And here sitting at the heart of all this is Aikwood Tower - the perfect place for you to base yourself on a holiday in the region.  We can't wait for the Railway opening - and to welcome more people from around the UK and beyond into our beautiful region!
